Why Getting Your Marriage License Should Be Priority When You Get Engaged

Before your wedding, you need to get your marriage license. This is a special license that makes your marriage legal once you have your wedding date. Your marriage will not be legally completed without the marriage license.

Here are reasons why getting your marriage license should be a priority when you get engaged. Make sure you get this document filed with enough time to get married but not so soon that it 'expires' before your actual wedding date.

It can take a while for the marriage license to get filed

It depends on the state you live in, but in most cases, the marriage license gets filed and you can get married as soon as you get the license documented. However, you have to get married within a certain time frame after getting the marriage license because they do expire. If this happens to you, simply apply for a new one. Regardless, you don't want to be at your wedding altar and unable to get married because you don't have the right documentation.

It can take a while for you to get the right documents to get married

In order to legally get married and get a marriage license first, you have to have the right documentation to use. Did you know you may need to have your license, other ID, birth certificate, and proof of residency in order to get a marriage license? It's wise to explore the things you need before getting a marriage license so you have plenty of time to acquire the documentation needed to make your marriage license approved without a hitch.

You might forget to get a marriage license in all the preparation

When you're planning your wedding, all your efforts may go into the planning of the wedding and picking out the dress, food, venue, attendee list, and more. You may not think once about the marriage license. That is until your officiant asks for it so they can sign it and have your witnesses sign it. If you're not prepared and getting your marriage license within the right time frame, you can accidentally pass this important part of your marriage by and be unable to legally wed (even though you can still have the reception on site and follow through with the vows).

You should get your marriage license within a good time frame to ensure your wedding day is legal and goes smoothly. In the end, the right wedding preparations should always end with a marriage license before the big day.
